Recently, I attended an event at Steel Park in Corby organised by Unite the Union regarding the future of the UK steel industry. I was invited to speak on this important issue and to set out my work to support this vital industry locally, along with representatives of other political parties. I have always been a very strong supporter of the steel industry here in Corby and have done much over the years to help secure its long-term future both at the Corby site and nationally, working with Tata Steel management and cross-party colleagues in Parliament, as well as various trade union representatives. My ongoing commitment and determination to see that our steel industry flourishes for years to come is as strong as ever, and so it was good to be able to reaffirm my personal commitment, as well as hear ideas about how this could be achieved. Representatives of Unite also presented me with a petition signed by local people, setting out their calls on the Government, which I promised I would present to Ministers, which I have duly done.
